Unlicenced Contractors
22-06-2010
Clarence Valley Kitchens & Shopfitting are urging people to check trade licences before giving a tradesman the go-ahead.
Under New South Wales law, if there was any claim against a company who was unlicenced, for work not done correctly or incomplete, the customer would not receive any compensation, as the contractor was not 'legitimate'.
You must also be wary that a company must be licenced, as well as the director (or a nominated supervisor)

Home Owner Warranty Insurance (HOWI) is also an important factor when considering a trade company. Any work over the value of $12,000, by law, must be covered with HOWI. Furthermore, the company must provide you with a certificate if insurance to prove this. A company will not obtain HOWI without being supplied with a certificate of insurance.
